The Ultimate Barber

John Hall grew up in a very talented family of barbers, and he began his barbering career at the ripe, young age of 14 when his mother surprised him with his very own set of barbering clippers. He started providing haircut services to close friends and family as a hobby, but word soon began to spread about John’s natural barbering talents and his clientele began to grow. Many years and apprenticeships later, John is one of the most popular barbers in Alexandria. With 26 years of experience under his belt, he loves serving his local community by providing creative and professional barbering services at The Ultimate Barber, and he hopes to continue to satisfy customers with his creative talent for years to come!

The haircut wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I recently moved to the area and had a great barber back where I was. He talked to me, asked me questions as he went along, and made the effort to connect with me and his community. He and the other barbers made people feel welcome. At Ultimate Barber the barber I had barely said a word to me. The barber next to me barely said a word either. I was an appointment on a schedule. It wasn’t a bad cut, but I am sure I can find a different barber shop with a different vibe.

This was my first experience with a VA barber shop, since I just moved from NJ. At first I was extremely nervous because before I moved I noticed VA had a huge lack of old school barbershops that weren’t chains. People from VA know what I mean, no old school barbershops but I finally found one.

There’s a lot of good things to say about this place but I’ll narrow it down for you for people with social anxiety like myself I like going to places that doesn’t have a lot of people. but they’re extremely good and get u in and getting u out looking your bests. I also love the atmosphere of the place to.

I’m not sure if my barber, John H., was simply tired or being negligent that day but this is one of the worst haircuts I have gotten in my life. Since this place had great reviews, I assumed all of the barbers would be great. I am sure that John is talented too but this type of negligence and inconsistency is what makes a great barbershop a regular one. I will definitely not be going back.

Kirk was very helpful and made sure to explain to me and my son what he was going to do and how to maintain my son’s natural waves. I thank Kirk for his kindness and professionalism. We will be regulars.

Visited Dominick @ the Ultimate Barber on lunch break today. First off, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the shop. Always important to maintain a clean spot! Second, was greeted respectfully and had to wait maybe 5 mins. Lastly, my guy Dominick lined me up with a fresh fade. Was complimented literally walking out the door. 10/10 recommend and will be back. Online booking service very convenient as well.

There online booking service isn’t reliable. I made an appointment for 3:30pm and when I showed up the lady at the front desk said I had no appointment. 5 other people were waiting there as well because the same happened to them. No chairs opened up for anyone because all of the folks who called in to make appointments walked right in front of us as if we didn’t make appointments at all. Waited an hour then left. Seems like a nice place other than that.

It’s wasn’t what I expected. The place is modern and receptionist very friendly. However, I booked early morning and had to wait an hour because a customer before me was late. No huge deal but several walk-ins were taken before me by other barbers. I suppose you have to use the specific barber you pick on the online appointment. Be sure that’s the one you want. My barber was pretty seasoned but really uncomfortable experience. There was a young man before me who was coughing all over the apron and the barber used the same one for me. The haircut hurt. I don’t have much hair but the clippers really snagged at every cut. I took it like a champ but was not a pleasant experience. Other barbers finished about 7 different clients to his 2. So if you have the time and pain tolerance, you’re all good. My lining was ok too. Great place just know which barber to go to. I recommend walk-ins to feel the barbers out 1st before you sit in that chair. I hope this helps.

I needed a good haircut to get me looking ready for a business appointment. I checked all over and found this business and decided to spend some money with them. It was Saturday, a usually busy time for a barbershop, so I called ahead. I asked if they accepted walk-in’s or appointments, I was told by the receptionist that they accepted walk-in’s. I asked if it was a busy day, I was told no, so I made my way. I walked in and was completely ignored by the staff, except for a few head nods. I went to the receptionist to ask if I needed to speak with the individual barbers to get a haircut or with her, she assured me that she would take care of me and asked me to have a seat until called, so I waited… and waited. After about 45 minutes and seeing person after person walk in and get service, I approached the receptionist again for an update. She apologized for the delay and told me I had a 45 minute wait. So much for the quick service I was promised. I sat back down for another 30 minutes before a barber asked if I was waiting for him, I responded I was waiting for an opening that I was assured was available by the receptionist, he responded I have 2 more appointments. I approached the receptionist one last time, when she revealed that the barber that finally came to inquire about my business was the owner of the shop. After 1.5 hours of waiting I was finally able to get a haircut from the barber Kirk, who greatly apologized for the poor service I had received. Kirk did a great job and I would definitely visit him again if he finds work at another barbershop. As for this business, I will not be returning. I don’t even write reviews, but do to the fact that me and my money was so disrespected and dealt with so unprofessionally, I had to get out of character and write this. It’s a down right shame to be treated like this, being a so-called black man by a so-called black establishment. I decided to maintain my professionalism and not make a scene in the barbershop because, like they say, when you argue with fools it’s hard for others to tell the difference. I would have said this to the owner himself, but since he stood by idle and acted so crude, I figured I didn’t owe him that respect.
